On June 6, 2016, China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited completed a landmark asset reorganisation that transformed the group's shipping portfolio. The divestiture of the bulk carrier business and the acquisition of Dalian Ocean Shipping Company created a cleaner, more focused energy shipping platform centred on CS Tanker's tanker operations.

The strategic refocus aligned CS Tanker's operations with China's national energy security priorities. By concentrating on crude oil and LNG transportation, CS Tanker became the primary vehicle for China's energy import shipping — a role that has grown in importance as China's energy demand has continued to expand.
